<p>My new Truefire video Kings of Tone is now out. This one took quite some time to get out because it is the largest offering in the TrueFire catalog yet. 405 minutes of video covering 145 lessons on 12 of my favorite guitar players of all time. I discuss the gear, touch and tone of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons, Dickey Betts, Duane Allman, Keith Richards, The Edge, Angus Young, and Mark Knophler. I get into their technique, pedals, amps, everything I can think of to help you channel these great players. I know I have learned a lot form them and I hope I can help demystify some of what they are doing.</p>

I have known David Koltai the founder of <a href="http://www.pigtronix.com" target="_blank">Pigtronix</a> for years and love stopping in his room to hang. This year as I plugged in to the Pigtronix setup I was floored by the <a href="http://pigtronix.com/products08/Aria.html" target="_blank">Aria Disnortion</a> pedal. Man this thing sounds great. It can get that <a href="http://www.ericjohnson.com" target="_blank">Eric Johnson</a> violin like sound which is great to find in a pedal. It also reacts well to my playing and is a whole lot of fun to play. A definite keeper. Here is video of me messing around with the pedal through a Fender Pro Junior. This is some of the tones the pedal can get but I was having too much fun ripping on it!</p>

It's from my steady gig at <a href="http://www.orobakerybar.com" target="_blank">Oro</a> here in NYC. We are there every Monday night. It's long so be patient, complete with drum solo! No over dubs, warts and all.</p>
<p>The band is Bill Malchow in keys and Hari Ganglberger on drums. It was recorded with a Sony Wav recorder so please forgive the mix. I liked the performance.</p>

I kept it to 5 because it's a cool number.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Daniel Lanois</span>. Well know for being U2 and Peter Gabriel's producer among others. He is also one of the coolest players on the planet.</p>
<p>&nbsp;<object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/h-uh3YKXakE&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/h-uh3YKXakE&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Buddy Miller</span>. Besides being an amazing singer and songwriter, he is one of my favorite players. Just ask, Robert Plant, Allison Krauss, Patty Griffin, and Emmylou Harris.</p>
<p><object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C4b7ECl81uc&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C4b7ECl81uc&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Chris Whitley</span>. I was fortunate enough to have known Chris and was deeply saddened by his death. A total bad- ass. Here is a clip from my favorite record of his. Din Of Ecstasy. A masterpiece.</p>
<p><object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bc_mBNia3YY&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bc_mBNia3YY&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Robert Smith</span> and The Cure. I am not too sure who came up with all the cool sounds and approach but let's say Mr. Smith had the final call. Great sounds, arrangements, and moods. Too cool.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0Cte91FKqAI&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0Cte91FKqAI&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Syd Barret</span>t. Pink Floyd's tragic founder. Although David Gilmour is one of my all time favorites, Syd's psychedelic stabbings always got me going. Still does.</p>
<p><object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6M-UtlpvBWk&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6M-UtlpvBWk&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object></p>
